Great Pacific Garbage Patch, Can it be Saved?

The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is a floating island of trash between North America and China. It is the width of Russia. Many pieces of plastic are too small to be able to pick up at this point, and are hurting plankton at the bottom of the ocean. Plankton is what many fish live off of, and the microplastic entering the ocean is killing off many species of fish. CNN predicts that by 2050, there will be more plastic than fish in the ocean. Plastic has also been found in Artic ice, showing the major spread.

Some researchers estimate there will be <a href="https://www.ellenmacarthurfoundation.org/publications/the-new-plastics-economy-rethinking-the-future-of-plastics" target="_blank">more plastic than fish</a> in our oceans by the year 2050.
